How to Be Gay

Speakers): David Halperin (University of Michigan)
featuring discussants:
Terry Castle (English)
Adrian Daub (German)
Prof. Halperin (PhD ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ '80) is the W.H. Auden Distinguished University Professor of the History and Theory of Sexuality at the University of Michigan. His newest book invites us to conceive male homosexuality as a style or mode of perception that generates a series of distinctive social and cultural practices. Controversially, he argues that gayness is a practice one can do well or badly.
After brief remarks by the panelists and a response by Prof. Halperin, we welcome all members of the public to participate. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.
